The United States Border Patrol (USBP) has been serving the nation for 101 years. Since its beginning, the brave men and women of the Border Patrol have worked hard to keep America safe. Their job is to protect the country’s borders and stop threats like illegal drugs, weapons, and dangerous criminals from entering.
The Role of the Border Patrol
Every day, Border Patrol agents put their lives at risk. They protect the nation by stopping criminals, smugglers, and even terrorists who may try to cross the borders. Some of these threats come from people who have been in jails or mental health facilities in other countries. The work is risky and demanding, but these agents do it with honour and courage.
A Challenging Time for Border Security
In recent years, the Border Patrol faced many challenges. The past administration allowed large numbers of people to enter the country without proper checks. Among them were dangerous individuals, such as gang members and violent criminals. This situation made it harder for Border Patrol agents to do their job, and it put a strain on resources and morale.
A New Approach to Border Security
On January 20, 2025, when President Donald J. Trump took office again, he acted quickly to change things. He declared a National Emergency at the southern border, which allowed the military to step in and help. Dangerous groups like MS-13 and Tren de Aragua were labelled as foreign terrorist organisations. This gave the government more power to stop their actions.
The government also restarted building the border wall, brought back the “Remain in Mexico” policy, and ended “catch and release” — a practice where people caught at the border were released while waiting for court hearings. Illegal border crossers could no longer claim asylum easily, and thousands of American troops were sent to guard the border.
Strong Results in the First 100 Days
In just the first 100 days of this administration, the results were clear. Border encounters dropped by 95 percent, and illegal crossings dropped by nearly 100 percent. March 2025 recorded the lowest number of border encounters in history. Fentanyl smuggling also dropped by over 50 percent compared to the same time last year.
During this period, over 150,000 illegal aliens were arrested, and 135,000 were deported. The USBP received the tools and respect they needed to continue doing their job effectively.
A Tribute to the Brave Agents
As the Border Patrol marks 101 years of service, we honour the brave agents who have dedicated their lives to protecting the country. Some have even died while serving. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Their families and loved ones deserve our deepest thanks and respect.
The mission to secure America’s borders is far from over, but with strong support and leadership, the USBP will continue to stand guard for generations to come.
