These changes come at a time when ICE reached its highest number of arrests ever, showing the agency is working faster and more actively. The new leadership setup aims to help ICE continue its mission to arrest and deport criminal illegal immigrants, keeping American communities safer.
Ken Genalo Retires After 33 Years of Service
Ken Genalo, who has worked with ICE for 33 years, has decided to retire from his role as Acting Executive Associate Director of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). Even though he is retiring, Genalo will still help ICE by advising field leaders as a special government employee. This new role lets him spend more time with his family after being away since January.
Todd M. Lyons, ICE Acting Director, praised Genalo’s long service and dedication, saying his leadership was key in the agency’s recent successes. Lyons thanked Genalo for his hard work and said he would continue to support ICE in his new role.
New Leadership Roles in ICE
Robert Hammer, who has been with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) for over 20 years, will move to a new important leadership position at ICE headquarters. His experience is very valuable for the agency.
Other leadership changes include:
Marcos Charles will become Acting Executive Associate Director of Enforcement and Removal Operations, with Mellissa Harper as his Acting Deputy.
Derek Gordon will serve as Acting Executive Associate Director of Homeland Security Investigations, supported by Deputy William “Bill” Walker.
Garrett Ripa will return as Field Office Director for ERO in Miami, Florida.
Tatum King will be the Acting Assistant Director of Domestic Operations for HSI.
Dawnisha Helland will lead ERO’s Non-Detained Management Division as Acting Assistant Director.
Tom Giles will become Assistant Director for ERO Field Operations.
Charles Wall will head the agency’s Office of the Principal Legal Advisor.
Susan Cullen Dunbar will be Executive Associate Director for ICE’s Management and Administration Directorate.
